Opportunity Scholarships

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program allows individuals who arrived with their parents prior to 2012 to qualify for deferred action. In other words, individuals who arrived as children are allowed to stay in the U.S. for a specific period and pursue more permanent immigration status.

TheDream.US is a nonprofit that promotes opportunities for dreamers and their families. This nonprofit offers dreamers the chance to pursue education at partner schools through the Opportunity Scholarship. The scholarship provides up to $80,000 in financial coverage.

Ohio Students

The program is interested in receiving more applications from students in Ohio. A program representative stated that they have received few applications form the state and want to make sure students are aware of this tremendous opportunity.

Program organizers understand that for dreamers, DACA only provides coverage for a temporary period. Individuals must work toward immigration status through education, employment, family connections, or eventually citizenship and naturalization.

There is plenty of evidence that supports the fact that immigrants contribute to the American economy. They provide skilled work, ideas, and strength that makes America successful. Additionally, DACA recipients are statistically driven with over 93% of dreamers gaining employment in 2017 alone.

DACA and the Future for Dreamers

Proponents of the program believe that dreamers who have grown up in the United States are Americans in all but name. They contribute to and benefit from society in very meaningful ways. However, those who do not believe in the program are concerned that continuing to support DACA is costing the government dearly.
